Have you ever noticed that kids will always let you know their EXACT age? If you ask my nieces their ages they aren’t six or nine, they are six-and-a-half and nine-and-a-half. It makes a big difference when you’re that age. My son is turning one-and-a-half this week so I thought I’d make him one-and-a-half cakes for his special day! But I didn't’ stop there. I decorated the final display with cookie sandwiches and dipped marshmallows, all in keeping with the one-and-a-half theme!

Two 7-inch cake pans
One 5-inch cake pan
Lazy Susan (optional but recommended)
Electric or stand mixer
Parchment paper or nonstick baking mat
Stand or electric mixer
Microwave-safe bowl or measuring cup
Small offset palette knife
#20 tip and coupler
#824 tip and coupler
Lollipop sticks for your dowels
Vanilla Cakes - Two 7-inch and one 5-inch:
3 ¾ cups all purpose flour
1 ½ tablespoons baking powder
1 ½ cups unsalted butter, room temperature
2 ¼ cups granulated sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
6 large eggs
1 ½ cups milk
¼ cup of sprinkles for batter. Extra sprinkles for exterior.
Simple syrup (Just bring equal parts sugar and water to a boil)
Gumpaste for topper
2 cups granulated sugar
4 large egg whites
1 pound unsalted butter, room temperature
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Purple food colouring
Orange food colouring
2 1/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup unsalted butter
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups semi sweet chocolate chips
4oz semi sweet chocolate
½ cup whipping cream
4oz white chocolate candy melts
4oz dark chocolate candy melts
2 1/2 tablespoons meringue powder
1 1/2 oz water
1 cup icing sugar
